Allen, Indiana says he was a father and a Civil War veterean His wife
Magdalene is buried by him. He may have come from Juterbog,Germany which may
have been Prussia at one time.His death obituary reads as follow: The Deaths
Hyde - Fredrick Hyde, a resident of Allen county for the past half century, and
a veteran of the Civil war ,died Thursday at his home in Pleasant township. He
was 76 years old and was born in Germany. He came to this country at the age of
13 years and made his home with an uncle residing near Loudenville,(Ohio). At
the outbreak of the Civil war he enlisted in Company C. Nineth Ohio Volunteer
cavalry. He was appointed an orderly of the headquarters of General Howard and
participated in Sherman's march to the sea.He was united in marriage to Miss
Magdalena Sprang,March 13,1866, and shortly after came to Allen county,where he
resided continuously since that time. His wife preceded him in death
twenty-nine years. He was a member of Sion S. Bass post,G.A.R. of this city.He
was also a member of the Evangelical church. The following children survive:
Cornelius F. and John Daniel Hyde,who reside on the home farm at Poe. Christian
F.Hyde,Alliance,Ohio and Mrs. Sarah L Crickmore,of Sheldon. A brother and ten
grandchildren also survive. The funeral serviceswill be conducted Sunday
morning at 10 o'clock from the Methodist church at Poe,(Indiana) Ritualistic
services will be conducted by Sion S. Bass post G.A.R.Enlisted in Civil War 23
Feb 1864 as a Private at age 23 and mustered out in Lexington,North Carolina 20
Jul 1865.

Daniel not shown in census. May not be children of this family.

Deborah and 3 sons. James,William,and Ulysess
Hezekiah served in the Union Army during the Civil Was. He was a carpenter by
trade. He was 6 ft. 3 1/2 inches tall with dark complexion,black hair,and black
eyes.
The Merritts were born in Scotland. They settled in Virginia and followed the
lumber industry north. Grandfather George I. Merritt settled at Algonac,
Michigan. They Moved to Tawas, Michigan and then to Curtisville, Michigan ,
still following the lumber industry, (1888) , driving logs to Sable. Oscada
down the Sable River. Some members of the Merritt famiy served in every war
this country has ever engaged in. Reverend George I.Merritt was the first
full-time pastor of the newly organized Curtis Baptist Church in 1888. He is
remembered by a few old times who tell of his fiery,straight-from the shoulder
preaching. He loved the Lord and his neighbors knew it. Rev. Merritt was
assistant pastor of Reno Baptist Church under Rev. Mellen. There is a record
that he preached the closing sermon for the organization of the Reno Baptist
Church, Sept 6, 1888. Reno Church paid him a salary of $ 10.60 in 1887.Wherever
he preached, he walked his circuit--from as far as East Tawas to Renoto
Curtisville. He was also Justice of the Peace . Sent from Ida Wilkinson. There
is a George in Fort Gratiot,St.Clair,Michigan in 1880 census FHL 1254604 pg.
200A with wife Sarah A. and sons Willard M. a sailor, age 22 <1858> and son
John Q. age 12 <1868>.Sons born in Michigan .George born in Canada father born
in New York,mother Canada. Sarah born Vermont parents bornVermont. Is this my George Merritt? He was a grocer.Probably not!
