given in Taft ,California July 1, 1928 as follows:A Blessing given by Hugh Stewart Geddes, Patriarch, Upon the Head of Ell Zenas
Phillips, Son of Lee Cester Phillips and Emma Morgan, Born January 31, 1894, at
Gainesboro, Tennessee.Ell Zenas Phillips, having been commissioned as a
Patriarch in the Church ofJesus Chrisr, I lay my hands upon you and give unto
you a Patriarchal blessing. And in giving you a Patriarchal blessing dear
brother, it is my privilege to tell you something of your ancestry and also,
perhaps, make mention of something which happened before you came here. For I
am inspired to tell you that you are one of those who shouted for joy when the
great plan of salvation was presented to the spirits and your elevated
birth-right proves unto us that you kept your first estate. For had you been
with Satan and those who followed him you would not have been permitted to have
a body, but as it is , you have that great priviledge of coming through the
lineage of Ephraim. This a another thing which the scientists of today can not
fathom, for if we had come , as they suppose, from one-celled animal we would
have all been alike;on the others hand if you had not been valiant you might
have been born with a dark skin. Likewise, what you do now upon the earth will
fit and qualify you for what you wiil be hereafter. And being a child of God it
is your natural ambition to become like your Father, so it shall be your
privilege to receive of the Priesthood of our Heavenly Father that will fit and
gualify you for anything that He desires at your hands. It shall yet be your
privilege to enter into the House of the Lord , and there be sealed unto your
chosen partner for time and all eternity. Without this privilege you can not go
on and receive Celestial Glory, which means eternal increase not only here, but
hereafter. You shall be blessed with a strong testimony of the Gospel so that
you shall be able to confound those that oppose you in your views. You shall
also have the privilege of doing much work in the Temple of the Lord for your
dead. Iwill not mention any special mission because it will be that your whole life
will be, as it were, a mission. And I now bless you that you might have the
spirit of discernment and also the spirit of prophecy; that you might be warned
and fore-warned of dangers ahead, that you might have sufficient of this
world's gods so that you will be able to educate your family and to lay up part
in heaven. And you do this by imparting some of this world's goods to the poor
and the needy, and by observing the law of tithes and offerings. Remember dear
brother, that all blessings are predicated on law, and if you live the law, even
the Lord, Himself cannot withold the blessing. The main thing to do to receive
this blessing is to keep yourself clean and pure and unspotted from the world.
And I now seal this blessing upon you with many others you may receive through
prayer. And as it is my right to seal you up to come forth on the morning ofthe
first resurrection, I do so in the name of Jesus Christ. AmenApproved: Hugh S Geedes
Patriarch
